Beyond the Blur / Clarity through Connection

“Sometimes the clearest vision comes after the fog.”
In this poetic and powerful WHEN Story, Courtney Hull shares how her journey from blurred vision to deep clarity wasn’t just about eyesight — it was about insight.

From receiving her first pair of glasses at 12 to standing in the African rainforests, photographing burn survivors, and facing soul-tired disconnection in her 40s, Courtney shows us what it means to see clearly again and again throughout life.

🎯 You’ll relate if you’ve ever felt:

Lost in your roles (mom, leader, partner, human)

Exhausted but afraid to slow down

Like your joy, identity, and purpose have gotten fuzzy

Like you're craving connection but not sure where to start

💡 Courtney’s story is a gentle reminder that clarity isn’t a lightning bolt — it’s a return. And sometimes, all it takes is someone saying, “You’re not alone. I see you. Keep going.”

Courtney Hull is the Associate Dean of Fire/EMS Training at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and the founder of Plugged In, LLC, a company focused on leadership and relationship development, communication, and connection in high-stakes environments.

A former career Firefighter/AEMT, Courtney transitioned to Fire/EMS education full time in 2010 after teaching part-time since 2007. She holds a master’s degree in training & development and is passionate about shaping the future of emergency services through inclusive, high-quality education.

As a classroom leader, Courtney is known for building strong relationships with students, designing creative, engaging lessons that proactively manage classroom dynamics, and providing holistic support to increase student success. Her leadership style is driven by her CliftonStrengths of Learner, Developer, and Relator—she’s energized by helping people grow, learn, and connect with purpose.

Courtney’s strategic mindset shines in her ability to rally teams around a shared vision, foster inclusive and engaged cultures, and generate fresh, effective solutions to stubborn challenges. Whether in a classroom, firehouse, or boardroom, she’s committed to developing resilient, high-performing teams that thrive under pressure.

Courtney also strongly believes in community engagement and service above self which is evident through her participation in numerous volunteer engagements, supporting fundraising endeavors and involvement with non-profits. She spent 15 years with the Wisconsin Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth with 5 of those years in a leadership position from Activities Director to Camp Director.

In her spare time, Courtney enjoys traveling, hiking, photography, trying new foods and cheering on her young son at his sporting events.
