First true crime podcast I ever subscribed to. No other southern true crime podcast can compare. 🤗 Every week I come back and Erica does not disappoint. Love Erica’s soothing voice, her empathy towards the victims and the way she doesn’t sugar coat anything.

Best of true crime podcasts

If you like true crime, you’ll love this one. The research is thorough- you learn about the place, the history, current culture, the background of the victims, and the background of the perpetrators. You walk away understanding the “why”. It’s robust storytelling, and it’s completely engrossing. I love listening while I’m doing chores, on a commute, or in the grocery store (I hate shopping!). If you enjoy a multi-faceted, well-researched true crime story without chit-chat, this is the podcast to follow.

Excellent podcast!

I have listened to every SFTC podcast and anxiously await each new episode. I love the way Erica narrates the story and I love when she adds her own opinion on things. Erica is very transparent between her own opinion and facts of the case. I love how so much effort and research is put into explaining the background of ALL relevant parties in the story- even the person committing terrible crimes. I don’t mind the few advertisement breaks and I think it is a silly thing to leave a poor review over.

My absolute favorite podcast

I LOVE learning about true crime and this is hands down my favorite podcast. I could listen to Erika talk alllllll day. Her voice is so soothing and I love the story telling she brings to her cases. I love learning about the geography and getting the details of the trials and court proceedings. She really takes her time to make sure listeners can see the whole picture which is so important to understand all sides.

Storytelling at its finest!

Erica Kelly is a wonderful storyteller, with her southern drawl and will have you sucked in to the latest podcast within the first 60 seconds. She and her research assistant, Haley Gray do their due diligence in research and presenting both sides to the story. As a former journalism major, I appreciate this because many times I feel that many journalists have forgotten to share both sides of a story. If you want to be drawn into a good southern true crime podcast, Southern Fried is for you. I have stopped listening to podcasts if their voice annoys me or they aren’t fully researching a story to tell.

Excellent and well researched

This is one of the first podcasts I look for each week. Episodes are well researched and delivered with the perfect amount of commentary. I also appreciate that Erika is smart, well spoken and there is no dumb chit chat.

Love this!

I love this podcast. I have listened to every episode. The amount of research and time put into every episode is evident really pays off. Erica’s soft soothing voice and commentary is the best! Keep it up!

The best!

Listening to Erica is right up there with sipping good bourbon while sitting on the screened porch. She respects the victims and their families and she is forever introducing me to incidents I never heard of or providing me with a lot of new information about cases I have heard of in the past. Listen, you won’t be disappointed.

I love true crime podcasts and I listen to a lot of them and skip between them, this one I listened to every single episode in order and was so sad when I caught up, now I just wait for each new episode!!

Tells us the backstory and the WHY of it all

I love the thought that Erica puts into the episodes. She doesn’t just tell you about the crime; she goes all the way back to their childhood and really expands on their life. I’m into true crime because I want to know the WHY of it and I feel Erica does a great job with this. Obviously Murder and crime are hideous and awful, no one is saying it isn’t, but by knowing more about someone and their history sometimes you can connect the dots so to speak to see how they ended up on their situation. It’s not excusing anything, make no mistake. I feel a lot of people who are interested in true crime are interested in the human behavior and psychology of it; we want to know how and why someone gets to this point where they do this. And Erica and her team do such a great job of giving you all the details. Does she include her opinion? Sure. But I don’t feel she’s in your face about it and I have other podcasts that are (that I also greatly enjoy). It’s a discussion. She lays out the facts and tells you what she thinks about it. This is one of my favorite podcasts and I think she does a wonderful job.

True Crime Lovers, Listen Here!

This podcast has everything: a soothing voice, the best dry humor, incredible team research, riveting stories, and deep respect for victims and the history and social norms surrounding a crime. I know that’s a long list but it’s all true. I can’t recommend this podcast enough. I’m pretty picky when it comes to podcasts and I only have two others I listen to consistently. TLDR; listen to this podcast

This is one of my faves

I listen to a bunch of podcasts - true crime being one of the most. Erica and team do a phenomenal job with showing the juman side of even the worst. She is always a sound for the victims and I really enjoy the additional local history she adds to the episodes, it helps bring the full picture into place. Not to mention her sultry voice is comforting when she’s discussing the horrific details which I think adds to me enjoying the show.

Enjoy this weekly dose of true crime

I found this podcast years ago and was an immediate subscriber. I enjoy this well researched and presented podcast. The information is thorough and never biased towards the criminal even when sharing details of how this person came into a life of crime.

Eloquent speaker but let’s be honest…..

The negative reviews regarding the hosts “personal views” are most likely from keyboard warriors who want to be offended. People who seek a negative slant. This is a great podcast and host. She had a beautiful voice and is a great story teller. The issue happens when people get upset that someone’s personal opinion do not laugh with theirs. Freedom is great, when we get what we (an individual) gets what we want. If you cannot tolerate someone’s opinion, UNSUBSCRIBE from life, metaphorically speaking. Please do not kill your self. Humans have feelings, emotions and believe it or not, opinions.
