I cycled through a few and when I found Crime Junkies, I was hooked. It has the right balance of factual storytelling and analysis.
At its best, it requires both Ashley AND Britt. When Britt was recovering, it just wasn’t quite the same and hearing her voice again brought a smile to my face. I do really enjoy Ashley’s solo podcast, The Deck, as well.
I do agree with some other recent reviews that it gets really heavy when there isn’t a solved crime sprinkled in- yet I understand why. They are very passionate about advocating for victims both deceased and still alive. This means they do tend to focus on bringing attention to unsolved crimes. It does make the solved crime episodes a bit of a breath of fresh air.
Their inclusion of minority groups is HUGE for me. Something I deeply appreciate. All that to say give it a listen- appreciate the balance of perspectives and their commitment to advocacy, and it might just become a favorite for you.
